OVER TIME

HC’s impact is multifaceted — not only are our local partners impacted by our programs, but travelers and students as well. Travelers view a new perspective of Mexico and the tourism industry, building empathy, breaking stereotypes, and, in turn, traveling differently. Our partners gain an opportunity to strengthen their businesses and acquire a platform to share their cultural traditions. Here is how our programs foster these outcomes over time.

FINANCIAL MODEL

A social enterprise is an organization that uses business strategies to achieve a social or environmental mission. While many traditional nonprofits rely on donations and grants, a social enterprise will generate much or all of its own revenue in order to cover organizational costs and achieve its goals.

Human Connections’ purpose is to financially and culturally empower our local partners, while increasing empathy between travelers and local people. Our work to achieve these goals is made possible by charging a fee to participants on our Day Tours and Student Programs. No shareholders generate a profit from Human Connections, as 100% of our profits are reinvested back into the enterprise to achieve our mission.

A social enterprise is not a tax bracket, but rather an impact model. Local laws and other organizational considerations inform the type of legal entity used for a social enterprise.  In our case, Human Connections is a 501(c)3 non-profit in the United States and can issue tax receipts for donations made.
