Though raised in Switzerland and upstate New York, Elly has always had a professional and personal interest in Latin America. Elly graduated from Tufts University with a double major in International Relations and Latin American Studies, and has substantial experience living, researching, and working with non-profits throughout Latin America. Elly began working with Investours in 2011 and served as Program Director for two years before initiating the transition to Human Connections in June 2014. She is thrilled to continue living and working in Bucerias as the Executive Director of Human Connections.

VICTORIA THOMPSON

 Director of Student Programs

A Toronto native, Victoria has always been passionate about foreign language acquisition, cultural exchange, and exploring the world around her. She has a degree in Spanish and History from Queen’s University, and later went on to complete her Master’s in Latin American Studies from King’s College in London. She has since spent most of her time living and working in South America, volunteering with Kiva microloans, and most recently working with La Comunidad que Construimos, a start-up NGO based in Peru. Victoria is thrilled to join the Human Connections team and excited to immerse herself in the wonderful Bucerias community.

MAYA MITRE

 Tour Program Director

Maya was born in the city of San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and studied Tourism Administration. Her understanding of tourism has been deeply shaped by her professional experiences with indigenous communities, working closely with the Teenek and Nahua cultures of her home state, and with the Mayan culture of the Yucatan Península. Maya is a lover of nature and passionate about the Ultimate Frisbee, and convinced that every trip is an opportunity for learning and cultural exchange. She is excited to find in Human Connections a social commitment between the visitors to and the culture of her country.

KENZIE YOSHIMURA

Communications Coordinator

Kenzie is from the small town of Hood River, Oregon. A recent University of Oregon graduate, she earned degrees in Spanish and Journalism with a focus in public relations. As a student, she completed several public relations internships and spent time abroad, studying in Spain and volunteering with a nonprofit in Peru. Kenzie is interested in both communication and cultural exchange as vehicles for positive change. She is honored to join the team in Bucerías and combine her two areas of study in her work at Human Connections.

SERGIO MEDINA

Social Promoter

Sergio was born in Mexico City, and studied Environmental Engineering at ITESO in Guadalajara, Jalisco. His knowledge in development is focused on communities and indigenous culture. He worked in the Center for Indigenous Rights in Chiapas with the Tseltal people and the Jesuit mission of Bachajón. Later, he moved to Nayarit in order to make a development program with Kinto Sol, S. C. for Na’ayeri, Wixarika, O’dam and Nahua people. His experience working with cultural exchange offers a different view about our sustainability.

EZGI ÖZKÖK

Development Fellow

Though having a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Ezgi has pursued a professional career in nonprofit organizations using her analytical background to create social impact. Working in different nonprofits in her home country, Turkey, she managed education and rural development projects. During these projects and her time lecturing Social Entrepreneurship for undergraduates, she organized field visits for high school and college students to the rural areas of Turkey and had the opportunity to experience these tours’ transformational impact on both local people and the travelers. As a current graduate student in Master’s Degree in Management at Harvard University, Ezgi is specializing in financial management and fundraising in nonprofit organizations and excited to implement her knowledge to contribute Human Connections’ growth plans in order to reach more local communities.

Vice President

Molly is an accomplished educator and social entrepreneur who has dedicated herself to serving the needs of local communities through education, economic empowerment, animal welfare, and environmental program development. She founded two successful nonprofits and three social enterprises, several of which were in the Bucerias region. Molly, an Indiana University graduate with a B.S. in Biology and graduate certificate in Secondary Science Education, is currently the Executive Director of a nonprofit organization based in Chiapas, Mexico called Escalera. Molly spends her free time in the outdoors, traveling and hanging out with friends.

Corrina served as Investours’ Chief Operating Officer for close to two years and is thrilled to be part of the founding team of Human Connections. She believes strongly in the power of travel and intercultural experiences to foster understanding and create a more compassionate world. Corrina graduated from Tufts University in 2010 with a degree in Psychology and Art History and currently lives in Austin, Texas, where she works for the child mentoring organization Big Brothers Big Sisters as a customer relations supervisor. In her free time, Corrina can be found doing yoga, taking painting classes, and seeing live music around town.

Kurt is currently a Senior Project Manager with a small technology consulting firm, Twin Technologies. Earlier in his career, he worked at Deloitte Consulting, building large scale eligibility systems for state welfare. He has a dual degree from the University of Maryland in Finance and Computer Engineering. He was a founding member of Investours, the company from which the idea for Human Connections originated. He is excited to be a part of Human Connections as it evolves to fit the needs of the Puerto Vallarta region. His excitement about using innovation to help people and educate tourists makes him a great asset to the team.
